Finally The Herbs Come Around Reggae

Now That Spring Is Finally Here, There Are Many Reasons To Go outdoors And Make The Most Of The Sunshine

Finally it looks like spring is almost here, and following a couple of days of heavy frost and freezing evenings, this lunchtime the sun is bright and the sky is clear. Although I have a thousand things that need doing at home, the chance to feel the warm sunlight has proved to be a big distraction and I’ve been out for a walk.

Although I live in quite a well populated village, it’s always quiet during in the daytime, and having crossed the main road in front of my abode I am straight away on a footpath which will take me over the fields. There is a small incline initially and once past that there is almost no human noise evident at all.

This footpath is my favourite local stroll. Over the first field, dipping down to cross a rarely used back lane, and then another gentle slope over a second field which leads to a compact wood at the top of the mound. The woods are not a public right of way, but the owners encourage the locals to walk in them by providing stiles to get over the fence, cleared pathways and occasional benches for the rambler who wishes to take a brief sit down.

In the summer, the trees are covered in leaves, and squirrels and birds are everywhere. A lot of the trees in the wood are sweet chestnuts and during the autumn the path underfoot is a carpet of crushed fruits. But spring is only just beginning and today the branches are bare and the woodland creatures are quiet with the exception of a few distant birds singing.

Today I have an additional reason for wishing to head for the woods. A buddy and I have offered to come up with a video to accompany an acoustic song recorded by some musicians we know. We have a vision, but have been waiting for the right conditions to get some video footage and this is the first day on which the weather has been good enough to film outside.

However, my friend is away from the area at the moment, so I need to employ my video abilities. The filming is difficult because I have defective eyesight, so I need to use my glasses to look at the video equipment, but remove them to look at things a long way off to be able to see what I’m filming. It’s really quite annoying! Now and again I wonder if I should ask about Laser eye surgery, but I don’t even know if Laser eye treatment would work for whatever is wrong with my eyes, and anyway, I believe it’s a bit expensive.

In any case, I have kept going and should now have plenty of images for us to start making the video. I have captured the sun’s rays breaking through the trees, the path twisting through the woods, the empty sweep of the fields filling the area towards the marshes and the river some distance away, and the enormous cargo ships making their way along the river to unload further upstream (though that final bit isn’t for our film concept!).

However, my friend has excellent eyesight, so when it comes to the intricate business of editing all the images together with the other footage we have filmed previously, she will do most of the work leaving me and my ropey eyesight to look at and comment on rough cuts, and edit the music if and when appropriate. Fortunately, my ears more than make up for my eyes, and I have exceptionally good hearing plus a well tuned musical ear. I wonder if I should avoid the notion of Laser eye surgery just in case my hearing gets worse when it’s done so that my eyes and ears are back at level pegging!

Anyway, the video will soon be completed and uploaded to various relevant music websites, and perhaps people will like it. It would be very good to get some complimentary feedback and maybe be given the option to interact with the same artists again. Maybe we could actually make some money from it, and then I could afford to think about the idea of Laser eye treatment, so that I can get footage for future projects without the constant need to take my glasses on and off throughout the filming process.
